Biography
Anne Munyua is the Founder and Executive Director of CELSIR and also serves as a board member supporting the organization’s broader regional vision.
She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with more than a decade of experience in human rights advocacy, strategic criminal litigation, and justice-sector reform. She is also a Cornell University Center on the Death Penalty Worldwide Makwanyane Institute Fellow and has consulted for organizations including Reprieve UK and FAO.
Anne holds an LLB from Moi University and an LLM from the University of Nairobi. She also founded Oduor Munyua and Gerald (OMG) Attorneys at Law, a practice handling capital defence, resentencing hearings, criminal claims, and related justice reform matters.
Her work has consistently pushed for a fairer criminal justice system in Kenya, including campaigns against extrajudicial killings, abolition of the death penalty, and policy reforms around humane offender treatment, restorative justice, plea bargaining, and access to pro bono legal aid.
At CELSIR, Anne provides day-to-day leadership, institutional direction, and overall supervision of the organization’s legal support, rehabilitation, and reintegration work.
